I wish Del Toro had done the 2012 Dark Shadows movie and cast Hiddleston as Barnabas because it struck me that Hiddleston gets the longing, the melancholy and the remorse that Frid played so beautifully back then.Patrick Lynchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12398291623086774963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3643617233022311024.post-60617918639082767852015-12-09T23:38:45.397-05:002015-12-09T23:38:45.397-05:00Patrick thank you for sharing your painting. I love how you described the struggles Barnabas faced- you understand him- it took me until the end of 1795 to see it- he takes us on quite an emotional journey. I don't know how I can add to your beautiful post, and do it justice. It isn't about the bites you are right. He is much more than this- a person who feels so deeply and above all yearned for love and to give love.MatildaWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04267618507187675912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3643617233022311024.post-38201384065424005052015-07-22T21:50:23.115-04:002015-07-22T21:50:23.115-04:00Hope this comment box works and I hope I found ano...Hope this comment box works and I hope I found another of my 25. It strikes me at many levels.

The poetic interpretation I have of its title, formulating ideas about a sad remembrance that we may have progressed since days gone by, and learned many new things. But what have we lost along the way. The element of grace and the sense of wonder.

This is a beautiful painting that in me evokes nostalgia and a yearning for those times when you could still hear at night 'the wind in the rosebush'.

Sincere regards,

Theotheo paijmanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17890509406570628152noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3643617233022311024.post-998524063262188572010-04-12T16:05:33.152-04:002010-04-12T16:05:33.152-04:00While I had seen Rossettis before, Valerie had not...While I had seen Rossettis before, Valerie had not so it was quite a treat for both of us to finally see one together. My subsequent studio spaces tended not have enough ventilation so I switched over to coloured pencil on hot press watercolour paper. About 1997, when I was in the tower studio at Loudoun House I decided to start painting on canvas again but again with a tight studio space and the addition of adult onset asthma I decided on acrylics.

With acrylics,I like the clean up with water, I like the ability to glaze over coloured pencils and still see the pencil work underneath. There are mediums I can add to acrylics that I didn't know about when I first tried it in the 1980's Acrylic paint has improved greatly over the last twenty years. The quality brands have far less shifting of colour when the pigment dries and there are ways now to extend working time.

I'm also not sure I have the patience I once did for oil paint to dry or else I might have gone with the water-miscible oil paints.

thanks,
PatrickPatrick Lynchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12398291623086774963noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3643617233022311024.post-34431675477884240612009-12-14T01:34:43.172-05:002009-12-14T01:34:43.172-05:00Interesting combination of media.
